The PHE OjodePez Award for Human Values is back!

Photography: Aitor Lara, from the work "Child Poverty in Spain".

For the eighth year running, OjodePez and PhotoEspaña are teaming up to offer a prize that will become an object of desire for all documentary photographers. The magazine wants to go further in its defence of the best documentary photography, and to do this it is joining forces with one of the main international photography events.

Participation in the PHE OjodePez Award is open to photographers from all over the world who carry out a work of documentary photography in which human values such as solidarity, ethics, dedication, or justice stand out.

The participants must send in a minimum of 10 or a maximum of 15 images. A prestigious international panel of judges will select the best portfolio, which will receive a 2,000 euro prize.  In addition, the winning work could be the object of an exhibition and will be published in a special issue that OjodePez devotes each fall to the award.

At the same time, the panel will select of series of finalists – no more than nine –, who will also see their work published in the special issue of the magazine.

All photographers can participant in the contest, regardless of nationality or age. There is no entry fee.

A minimum of 10 or a maximum of 15 images are required.  The photographs cannot have been published previously as a series, nor as part of a book, nor have been awarded collectively before. The images must be attached at the time of the registration.

We don’t want you to waste money on copies and mailings.  Therefore, a system will be provided for sending your images via FTP so that all participants can send their work over the Internet.  Only entries sent via this system will be accepted.

You will be able to enter the contest at  There you will find all the information you need to register and send your work correctly. It’s as simple as that.

The deadline for sending images is 8 May.

The prize consists of 2,000 euros plus the publication of the reportage in the fall issue of OjodePez, which comes out in September. Moreover, the possibility exists that an exhibition will be organized for the winning work and the work of the finalists.  In the previous edition of the contest, the exhibition was hosted by Fnac, travelling to different cities in Spain and Portugal throughout the year.

In addition to the winner, the panel will select a series of nine finalists whose work will also be published in the September issue.

The 2014 panel of judges consisted of Carine Dolek (Fetart), Mauro Bedoni (Colors), Diego Orlando (Burn), Erik Vroons (Gup) and Arianna Rinaldo, director of OjodePez.

An international panel of equal renown will be responsible this year for selecting the winning work and finalists of the contest.

The winner and finalists will be announced in June in PHotoEspaña, as well as in the Fall magazine issue.

Entrants grant an exclusive licence for the purposes of publication and publicity of the submitted photographs selected as finalist and winning images, and for use in promoting the competition in future editions. Naturally, copyright remains with entrants, as does their entitlement to publish their photographs in other media. OjodePez will only make use of them to publicise the competition, and always accompanied by a photo credit.

The winner and the finalists accept the free reproduction of their images in mass media with the sole aim of spreading the results of the award.

Participation in this contest implies automatically full and total acceptance, without reservations, of these rules.

You will need a minimum of 10 or a maximum of 15 photographs in JPEG digital format.

We recommend Photoshop “Save for Web” using medium/high quality.

The weight of the photographs should be less than 300 Kb and the longest side must be 700 pxs, otherwise the server will not accept them.

The pictures uploaded to the FTP should be named as follows: no points, commas or other punctuation marks. Words should be separated by underscores.
