Discoveries PHE19. Open call

Discoveries PHE is a professional meeting for photographers that will be held on June 3th and 4th, 2019, coinciding with the Official Opening of PHotoEspaña, at the  headquarters of PIC.A Escuela Internacional Alcobendas PHotoEspaña, in the Miguel Delibes Space (Avenida de la Magia, 3. 28100 Alcobendas-Madrid).

 

Descubrimientos PHE offers the possibility for selected artists to have individual appointments with national and international experts, in order to create a space where photographers can:
Show your photographs to curators and editors
Receive individual advice for your work
Discover trends in the world of image
Share your project with a community of creators

How to participate?

 

Fill in the registration form, in all its fields
Upload photographs, up to a maximum of 15, in jpg format (700px on its shortest side and a maximum of 300kb).
There are no restrictions on technique, theme or year.
We recommend that the photographs belong to the same series.
It is required to pay the pre-registration fee (10 euros), non-refundable, following the steps of the form.

Selection
A jury will select the participants, a maximum of 70, and a waiting list.
The organization will communicate by e-mail the result of the selection. The list will be available on PHotoEspaña’s website.

 

Registration
The selected photographers will receive a second communication with indications for:
– Pay the registration fee (240 euros) before 30 April 2019.
– Send a selection of 10 preferences from the list of experts; appointments will be made with at least 3 of those chosen.
– Each person will have a total of six appointments.

 

Portfolio review

Each appointment will be 20 minutes, and will be organized with strict punctuality.
Reviews will be in Spanish and English.
Portfolios can be presented on paper or in digital format (it is necessary to bring the support).
The organization will do its best to ensure that each photographer is interviewed with the greatest number of their preferences from the list of reviewers. Each photographer’s agenda will be sent before the start of review.

Closing date: Tuesday 9 April 2019 / Extended call until Sunday, April 14 at 11.59 p.m.
Announcement of selected participants: Thursday 25 April 2019
Deadline of registration payment: Thursday 2 May 2019
Portfolio Reviews: Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 June 2019
Official Inauguration of PHotoEspaña: Wednesday 5 June 2019

 

Rates
Non-refundable pre-registration: 10 euros
Registration: 240 euros.
Extra appointments: 30 euros

– Invitation to the Official Inauguration of PHotoEspaña
– Festival Guide

Cancellations of registration (240 euros) can be made until 5 May 2019, with a 10% cancellation fee.

The Organization is not responsible for the transfer and accomodation

 

Award
An external jury will choose the winner of Descubrimientos 2019 from among all the participants.  The winner will have an individual exhibition in the next edition of the Festival. 2018 winner  is Roger Grases.

 

Grants and Opportunities

 

The Portuguese Embassy and the Instituto Camões offer two grants for two Portuguese photographers. Once the call ends and the participants are announced, among all the works received from Portuguese artists, a selection of two will be made. Those ones will be able to attend the activity without having to pay the registration fee (240 euros).

 

The Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics – IEB supports one more year the activity of Descubrimientos. Thanks to their collaboration, ten artists resident or born in one of the Balearic Islands will be able to participate with no registration fee, if they are selected, in Descubrimientos and attend all the activities and exhibitions that take place during the Opening week of the festival.

 

Futures is a new photography platform that pools the resources and talent programmes of leading photography institutions across Europe in order to increase the capacity, mobility and visibility of its selected artists.Futures is an initiative of the European Photography Platform.
If you are selected for Descubrimientos you can be one of the five artists that PHotoEspaña proposes for 2019.
