El PHotoEspaña Master in Photography, in collaboration with the Alcobendas City Council, launches the online workshop "Photography, Art and Document: The humanist vision" taught by Rafael Trobat.
This workshop proposes a vision of documentary photography as a vehicle for artistic expression, an approach to photography as art and as a document through the human landscape. It will reflect on the conception, development and production of documentary projects with a humanistic character, the creative process will be analyzed and methods of preparation and organization of work, photographic editing criteria as well as finishing techniques and final presentation will be exposed.
RAFAEL TROBAT (Córdoba, 1965) is a Doctor of Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid. Graduated in the specialty of painting, in 1988 he started in photography. His training as a photographer was developed together with the renowned Spanish author Cristina García Rodero, with whom he maintained a close professional bond for more than 15 years. At the same time, he carries out photographic works for different national and international media and institutions. In 1994 he received the Banesto Grant for Artistic Creation and in 1996 he was selected by World Press Photo to participate in its Masterclass in Rotterdam, (Netherlands). In 1998 he received the Fotopres Grant from the La Caixa Foundation and was awarded by the CajaMadrid Foundation. In 2009 he published Here by the Water. Nicaragua (Lunwerg), after almost two decades of work in the Central American country. The book is a finalist in the XV edition of the "Leica European Publishers Award for Photography" (London, 2008) and the exhibition tours Spain and Europe. In 2013 La Fábrica published the volume of the PhotoBolsillo collection dedicated to his work, recently published and reviewed, among others, in the books Spain. A century of history in images, (Lunwerg. 2012) Contemporary Spanish Art 1992-2013 (La Fábrica. 2013), Spain through Photography 1839-2010 (Taurus. 2013) and Dictionary of Spanish Photographers (La Fábrica. 2014) . He has participated in projects exhibited in prestigious art centers such as the Reina Sofía National Museum, La Caixa Foundation, Casa de América, Mapfre Foundation or the Madrid Fine Arts Circle, projects that have traveled the world with the help of institutions such as the Instituto Cervantes or the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation. His photographs, which are part of renowned public and private collections, have been published and exhibited in numerous countries in Europe, Asia and America.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE: - 1999-2021: Associate professor, assistant professor, and interim doctor hired professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, teaching the subjects "Basic Photography", "Photography I", "Photography III" and "Lighting" (Bachelor of Fine Arts), "Fundamentals of the Photographic Image" and "Languages and Photographic Processes" (Degree in Fine Arts), "Basic Photography" and "End of Degree Project" (Degree in Design) as well as direction of Final Master's Projects in the University Master's Degree in Research in Art and Creation. Since 2018 he has been a Professor at the University.
