The generational portraitist of European youth of the XNUMXst century
Jesús Madriñán (Santiago de Compostela, 1984) uses large format analog photography to reinterpret and update the portrait as an artistic genre. His production is born from the subversion of studio photography, going beyond its usual parameters to feed on the paradox derived from using traditional and meticulous techniques in situations that are inevitably spontaneous and elusive. As a result of this contradiction, series such as good night london (2011) boas nights (2013) Dopo Rome (2016), or I Am Light (2019). The result is a moving generational portrait in which values such as youth, diversity and tolerance prevail.
The trajectory of Jesús Madriñán has numerous individual exhibitions, among which the following stand out: I Am Light (Galician Center for Contemporary Art, Santiago de Compostela), thousand nights and one night (Centre del Carmen Contemporary Culture, Valencia), The time revealed (Alcobendas Art Center, PHotoESPAÑA), as well as those dedicated to his series good night london at the Kavlin Cultural Center in Punta del Este (Uruguay) and at the Cultural Centers of Spain in Mexico City and Montevideo.
