Ideas. New paradigms of documentary photography in Latin America and North America

online meeting developed in collaboration with the Sesc Ideas, a pioneering Brazilian institution in the challenge of promoting culture through the Internet. The program, open and free through the Sesc platform, will present a virtual table around the image as an opportunity for the dissemination of knowledge. The debate will highlight the new paradigms of documentary photography, with a focus on contemporary production from Latin America and North America.

The activity will include the participation of the artist Marcela Bonfim, and the critic and curator Diana Cuellar Ledesma, with the mediation of Maíra Villela, responsible for the exhibition area of ​​PHotoESPAÑA, and the presentation of Eder Martins, researcher at the Sesc São Paulo Research and Training Center.

Marcela Bonfim

Photographer, graduated in Economic Sciences from PUC-SP. She is currently dedicated to the project (Re)knowing the Black Amazon: black peoples, customs and influences in the jungle – a project of militancy and reflection in the field of visual arts and visual anthropology, on the memory of the Brazilian black population in the Amazon region.

Diana Cuellar Ledesma

Doctor in Artistic, Literary and Cultural Studies from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She is a correspondent for ArtNexus magazine, a frequent contributor to the Third Text newspaper in the UK, and frequently publishes promotional texts and essays in Spain and Mexico.

Mediation: Maíra Villela

Head of Exhibitions at PHotoESPAÑA and the PHE Discoveries programme, with portfolio readings. In 2021, she has curated the exhibition Cities in the City together with Virgílio Ferreira on sustainable activities, which was presented at the Porto Photography Biennial.

Presentation: Eder Martins

Photographer, teacher in social history from PUC-SP and researcher at the Research and Training Center of Sesc São Paulo.
