Christian Voigt reflecting empty spaces in his photographs. With nothing, with nobody. This year our world has literally become empty, suspended in time and space for a few weeks. Voigt has the need to show temples in the guise of casinos, cathedrals, museums and libraries, always unoccupied, static. This insistence on showing uninhabited nature seems premonitory today because in all these images we can sense the presence of human beings; perceive them there, but it is a presence veiled by nature. Dunes captures many of these ideas emerging from the artist’s work. They recognise the power of a nature that moves freely and senses a human reality, always challenged to survive in inhospitable environments. Consciously or unconsciously, the photographer creates surprising similarities between his visual intention and our current life. His photographs become bridges which remind us of the way towards a context of silence, reflection and profound emotions.
