In 2019 marks the 100th year commemoration of commercial air transportation in Spain. To celebrate it, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, through the Fundación ENAIRE, presents an exhibition of historic photographs that spans from the first flights —used to transport letters and the first passengers— to our time, in which aviation has become a basic element of communication.

Today, aviation continues to be a theme of inspiration in artistic photography. This exhibition is representative of this interest by both photographers unknown to the public, as well as internationally celebrated artists to the likes of José Manuel Ballester, Chema Alvargonzález, Alberto García-Alix, Antoni Muntadas, and Raúl Urbina. Their works take us to us to the origins of commercial air transportation in Spain and have witnessed the social evolution the it entailed.

Fundación ENAIRE is the cultural institution that manages the ENAIRE Contemporary Art Collection, a public collection that holds nearly 1,200 artworks of diverse typology (painting, sculpture, photography, multimedia art, and other techniques). ENAIRE is an enterprise of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, that oversees air navigation in Spain
