For their ongoing Paparazza Moderna project, Lake Verea create poetic portraits of the residential houses designed by renowned modernist architects. Francisca Rivero-Lake and Carla Verea Hernández approach these buildings like paparazzi—unannounced and spontaneous—with the aim of capturing them in their current, real state. The photographers evoke architectural compositions of buildings by Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, Richard Neutra, Rudolph M. Schindler, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Philip Johnson which were taken during their journeys around the USA between 2011 and 2018. Each composition, which Lake Verea call “architectural portraits”, consists in two to ten photographs. The artists view the houses as living characters and offer a playful and at times voyeuristic take on the myths that surround and intertwine the relationships between some of the great architects of the 20th century.
