Volcanoes, just like bodies, periodically release their excess pressure. But what is squeezing what? Is the fire squeezing the mountain, or vice-versa? The magnetic field of our planet caused by the flows of melted iron inside it dramatically invert its polar balance every hundreds of thousands of years. We find order harmonious, and we are thus constantly calculating our position. Bodies correct issues of the division of weight and conflicts over balance with extraordinary efficiency. Intuitively, in thousandths of a second, they meet their need to be standing and not fall. In The Revolt of the Bodies, the Nagore Legarreta artist draws a “not knowing how to place yourself”; she portrays bodies of women seeking a collective being, she photographs discomfort which pushes us to move and re-place ourselves. Beauty is understood as a negotiation between the spontaneous and the refined. In this series, she also brings in her characteristic pin-hole camera with found materials, thus associating body and landscape.
