This exhibition by the Japanese artist Nobuyoshi Araki includes an array of photographs centered on two of the themes for which this photographer has received wide international recognition during the past four decades: flowers and portraits of women. His artwork unites life, death, sex, and beauty —a transitory beauty like that of his flowers, which are a symbol of decadence—.

The creative universe of Araki has always walked a fine line between artistic expression and pornography, which has made him both a cult figure and a classic contemporary artist, celebrated for his unique interpretation of inordinate eroticism, which can be at times unsettling. While at the beginning of his career in the sixties Araki ran into problems with authorities for amorality, he has been able to maintain his work at the limits of provocation, without coming across as a threat beyond the moral values and cultural taboos.
