RISE TO HEAVEN, OF LUA RIBEIRA

climb to heaven presents five works carried out by the Galician photographer Lúa Ribeira between 2016 and 2020: Ascent to Heaven, The Visions, Aristocrats, The Jungle y The lucky ones.

In these five series, Ribeira explores themes historically related to documentary photography and representation, often within the framework of institutionalized communities or spontaneous anti-structures that arise on the margins of society. Los fortunados takes place in Melilla and accompanies a group of young people on their journey to reach Europe from Morocco. Aristocrats, held in Galicia –Ribeira's homeland– in collaboration with a religious institution that cares for a group of women with cognitive disabilities. Las visiones, carried out during Holy Week, directly addresses Spanish historical and cultural religiosity.
