Days of Uncertainty
The pandemic arrives, that faraway virus is now among us, the city empties out, but life goes on. Days of Uncertainty is the fourth chapter in a series of projects by the photographer Eugeni Gay on the city of Barcelona since 2016. Through this project, he conveys all the sensations and thoughts experienced in the past few months.
Going outside after weeks of confinement without even understanding why made him want to go back home so he wouldn’t see or feel. There are no people on the pavements, the air is breathable, yet oppressive, the silence becomes uncertainty. As the days go by, Gay realises everything that he hadn’t noticed before then. Nature and our fragility are stronger than we think. The city belongs more to those who live in the streets than to those of us who inhabit it from the comfort of our own homes.
He also noticed how we are gradually moving back to “the new normal”, which may allow us to change and rationalise our lives, although sometimes that is more frightening than the virus.
