Carlos Pérez Siquier (1930–2021) fue una figura clave en la renovación de la fotografía española de posguerra y un pionero en la incorporación del color como lenguaje artístico. Cofundador en 1956 de la revista AFAL junto a José María Artero, contribuyó decisivamente a la proyección internacional de la fotografía española y a la ruptura con el pictorialismo dominante.
En los años cincuenta inició su emblemática serie La Chanca, donde retrató la vida en un barrio humilde de Almería, mostrando tanto la dureza como la dignidad de sus habitantes desde una mirada cercana y humanista. A partir de los sesenta, su trabajo evolucionó hacia la experimentación con el color, alcanzando uno de sus momentos más innovadores con La Playa, una serie que, con ironía y frescura, dialoga con la estética del Pop Art.
Galardonado con el Premio Nacional de Fotografía en 2003, su obra forma parte de importantes colecciones y constituye un referente imprescindible en la historia de la fotografía contemporánea.
Carlos Pérez Siquier (1930–2021) was a key figure in the renewal of postwar Spanish photography and a pioneer in the use of color as an artistic language. In 1956, he co-founded the influential magazine AFAL with José María Artero, playing a crucial role in promoting Spanish photography internationally and breaking away from the prevailing pictorialist tradition.
In the 1950s, he began his iconic series La Chanca, portraying life in a humble neighborhood of Almería. Through a close and humanistic gaze, he captured both the hardship and dignity of its inhabitants. From the 1960s onwards, his work evolved toward color experimentation, reaching a significant milestone with La Playa, a series that, with irony and freshness, engages with the aesthetics of Pop Art.
Awarded the National Photography Prize in 2003, his work is held in major collections and stands as an essential reference in the history of contemporary photography.
